Each new assessment may take up a considerable amount of time to obtain a complete picture of pain that the patient is experiencing. The pain nurse will try to walk you through some selected questionnaires to enable the pain specialist to have a better understanding of your pain. She may also educate the patients on different aspect of pain relating to different areas of the body. In selected cases, assessment may be made together with clinical psychologist and physiotherapist.

The Pain Management Service staff works in partnership with referring physicians to provide care for patients with ongoing or temporary pain. Supported by cutting-edge technology and the latest evidence-based research discoveries, the experienced, knowledgeable pain specialists conduct a complete analysis of each patient and develop an individualized treatment plan.

Depending on the patient's condition, the doctors can relieve pain completely, reduce the amount of pain or provide methods and medications that will help long-term sufferers cope better with the condition in their daily lives. Overall, the Pain Management goals include helping patients achieve a greater sense of control over their condition and improved quality of life. Doctors share techniques for reducing pain, reducing the amount of drugs taken and improving everyday activity levels. In addition selected patients may require psychiatry, behavioral medicine, physical therapy, and acupuncture.

Considered a key member of The Pain Management team, the patient's referring doctor is consulted regularly and kept informed of the patient's treatment and progress.
